Greece protests of Jan. 2018

Thousands of Greeks protest on the streets of Greek cities against new reforms which restrict workers’ right to strike.

A mass strike has paralyzed transport system of the capital and has affected hospitals, shipyards, metro, airports and various transport hubs. Teachers and doctors have joined the strike.

Protesters marched on the parliament in Athens and clashed with riot police outside the parliament building. The police responded by firing teargas.

The government is going to implement new austerity measures and to make it more difficult to call a strike. Greece, prosperous in the past, but near bankrupt nowadays, is in fact an inner colony of EU now, as many other peripheral countries of the Europe. External financial capital has took the country under control and forces it to obey to neoliberal agenda, which leads to wide sale of national assets and the measures of austerity imposed on working people.
